In the Bury area we now have the Tree Bumblebee (Bombus hypnorum). Even though we try not to cause harm to
bees, this variety is unsafe when nesting low down in the garden or on the body of your building. We do not generally like to harm bees however this bee is unsafe when nesting in the proximity of persons, especially young children and pets. Its distinguishing markings, black body, the orange thorax and white rear end, make it simple to recognize and we recommend getting in touch with a pest controller straight away you think you could possibly have a nest. In the meantime keep away as this bee can and will sting. If you are undecided about identification then please go to our wasps and bees site.
If you are calling regarding a wasps’ nest in the Bury region in spring between April – July please visit our Seasonal Chart Page to ensure that you actually do have a wasps’ nest, not harmless solitary bees. This may save you a callout charge as it is rare indeed to have

Our cost for handling wasps’ nests is fixed at £39.50 and we will definitely not ask you for extra unless access apparatus such as scaffolding or a cherry-picker is necessary to get to the nest. Please note that operating at height legislation is very stringent these days so please advise us if the nest is any taller than the guttering of a typical household home.
The only exception is in the case of a late season wasps’ nest, where a supplementary treatment to your attic may be required.
We try and deal with wasps’ nests from the exterior of the building if at all possible and we like to use long lances in place of ladders, it’s safer for all concerned.
Also, and more importantly do NOT attempt to close or block the nest entrance with mastic or mortar etc., you’ll drive the wasps into the house and when we arrive we need the entrance to be open so as to perform the treatment.
If you call us out to a nest where you have sealed the entrance we will charge you extra for the additional time it takes us to deal with the nest. On occasions when an entrance has been sealed or where you have attempted to deal with the nest yourself we reserve the right to charge you a call out fee without carrying out the treatment or to attempt the work with no guarantee given.
Our contractor will come along by scheduled appointment, inject a little bit of powder pesticide into the entry to the wasps’ nest and the returning wasps will transport it into the centre of the nest and inside an hour all of the wasps will be dead.
On condition that we can get to where the nest is without walking through the house then you can prepay on the internet and we’ll destroy it while you are out. Our specialist wasp control website has a prepayment facility for you to buy by visa or mastercard, sorry we can take credit cards over the internet or on location but not over the phone. You need to telephone us to tell us you’ve prepaid and to advise us where exactly the nest is. Also make sure you don’t forget to open any gates etc that we may need to pass through and move any bins etc which may be in the way.
If there are any issues which may be important such as the presence of bats etc then please do not wait until we arrive on site to inform us about them, we won’t carry out a treatment if it’s dangerous but we will charge you a call-out fee.
The vogue pest of the moment is bed bugs, they are a world-wide epidemic and very easily transported to your property.
Lots of people mix up bed bugs with dust mites. Distinct From dust mites which are quite safe, bed bugs are not present in every bed but only in the beds of those unfortunate enough to get infested.
Bed bugs are very easily seen and look like an apple pip, particularly when completely developed and recently fed. They aren’t indications of poor hygiene, all they want is a blood feed every few days – your blood!
You can transport bed bugs to your residence just by staying in an infested hotel room or even by sitting next to the wrong person on the tube.
It only takes a solitary female to quickly establish an infestation in your house and they spread like wildfire through connected properties, semi-detached and terraced etc. If the infestation is really bad you can get 4-600 bites per night and become actually quite ill.
Whatever you do PLEASE never try and deal with the infestation your self, I guarantee that you will simply make matters so much worse. If you suspect that you might have a bed bug infestation then please telephone us for advice well before you do anything at all.
Well before you undergo any measures at all, most certainly do not purchase a brand-new bed or bedding since it will be infested by bed bugs on the very first night.

Flea infestations are on the rise again, even with people who frequently treat their dogs and cats.
This might be that populations of cat fleas and dog fleas are starting to be resistant to the active ingredients in the flea remedies sold to the public.
The growth of these fleas is also brought about by the increase in the presence of city foxes in many places.
It is vital to take care of a cat flea or a dog flea infestation as they can bring about significant problems, particularly for small children as they can carry and pass on tapeworms.
